Founded in 1959 the original Mini is considered a British icon of the 1960s. In 1999 the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century, second only to the Ford Model T. The performance versions, the Mini Cooper and Cooper "S," were successful as rally cars, winning the Monte Carlo Rally multiple times in the 1960’s.

As of 2000, Mini became part of the BMW family. The new model made by BMW is technically unrelated to the old car but retains the classic transverse four-cylinder, front-wheel-drive configuration and "bulldog" stance of the original. Today’s lineup includes the classic Cooper available in 2-door or 4-door, and the largest car Mini has built, the Clubman.
